How We Calculate Our Fees
We know that no one plans for legal fees. They often come at a time when life already feels overwhelming—when emotions are high, uncertainty is daunting, and financial strain is real. We understand that this isn’t just a legal process; it’s a deeply personal and life-changing moment.
We believe that getting the right legal support isn’t just an expense—it’s an investment in your future, your family, and your peace of mind. We’ve seen time and again how trying to navigate separation or family matters alone can lead to missed details, costly delays, and unnecessary stress. Getting it right the first time can save you time, money, and emotional hardship in the long run.
But we also know that affordability is a real concern. That’s why we offer various service options to meet different needs and budgets. Some clients choose to seek support from family, personal savings, or a line of credit to ensure they get the guidance they need. If finances feel like a barrier, talk to us—we’re here to help you explore your options so that you don’t have to face this alone.
If you’re unsure where to start, book a free discovery call with our Client Experience Manager.
Your First Step: A Meaningful Consultation
When you reach out to us, our Intake Team will take the time to understand your situation and connect you with the right lawyer for your needs. The cost of a consultation with the lawyer is a flat fee equivalent of their hourly rate, which ranges from $325 – $575 plus tax.
A consultation with one of our lawyers is your opportunity to share your story, voice your concerns, and receive thoughtful, tailored advice on your next steps. In this one-hour session, your lawyer will listen carefully, answer your questions, and outline options for resolution based on your unique circumstances.
There is no obligation to retain our firm after your consultation. The decision is entirely yours, and we will never pressure you into anything you’re not ready for. Our role is to provide clarity, support, and guidance, so you can move forward with confidence in whatever way feels right for you.
We also offer a free 30-minute discovery call with our Client Experience Manager to help you explore the best path forward.
How Retainers Work: Clear, Transparent Billing
A retainer is a deposit toward future legal fees. When you begin working with us, you’ll provide an initial deposit, which we hold in trust. As work is completed on your matter, we apply the funds from your retainer to cover legal fees. To ensure your case continues without interruption, you’ll be asked to top up the retainer as needed so that there are always funds available in trust.
While your file is active, we will send you weekly invoices detailing the work completed and the balance remaining in your trust account. We issue weekly invoices so you have a clear picture of what your fees are.
We believe that legal fees should never come as a surprise. Our commitment is to keep you informed, involved, and in control every step of the way. If you have any questions about billing or retainers, we’re always here to help.
Understanding Hourly Fees & Flexible Legal Support
Legal matters are often complex, and every client’s needs are different. That’s why we offer both full representation and flexible service options to ensure you get the right level of support.
Hourly Fees
For legal work billed by time, we charge hourly rates based on the experience and expertise of the lawyer assisting you. Our lawyers’ hourly rates range from $325 to $575 per hour, with time tracked in six-minute increments, so you are only billed for the time spent working on your matter.
During your consultation, the lawyer you are meeting with will help to give you a reference point for how much your matter may cost in legal fees.
Unbundled Legal Services: Help When You Need It
Not everyone needs—or can afford—full legal representation, but that doesn’t mean you have to navigate your separation or family law matter alone. If you prefer to handle most of the work yourself but need guidance along the way, we offer legal coaching to help you understand your rights, responsibilities, and best strategies, as well as document preparation to ensure your legal paperwork is properly drafted and filed. These options allow you to get as much or as little help as you need, ensuring you have access to professional guidance even if you are managing parts of the process yourself. And if your situation becomes more complex, you can transition to full legal representation at any time.
Flat Fees
For certain legal services, we offer predictable, flat-fee pricing, so you know the cost upfront.
