Consultations are billed at your lawyer’s hourly rate, plus tax. That’s because you’re meeting the lawyer who would actually handle your matter — a focused, one-hour conversation where they review your circumstances, answer your questions, and outline your options and likely next steps.

No. There’s no obligation to retain us after a consultation. The point of the meeting is to give you reliable guidance and a realistic sense of what your matter may involve, so you can make an informed decision about how — or whether — to proceed.

A retainer is a deposit held in trust to cover future legal fees. Our standard retainer is $10,000. That figure isn’t an estimate of what your matter will cost — it simply makes sure funds are available for ongoing work. Any unused portion is returned to you when your matter ends.

As work is done, fees are drawn from the trust account. You’ll receive a detailed invoice each week setting out the work performed and the balance remaining. If more funds are needed to keep going, we’ll let you know in advance — so there are no surprises.

Not necessarily. Every situation is different. After your initial consultation, your lawyer will estimate the work your matter is likely to need and discuss whether the standard retainer makes sense for your case. Our goal is billing that’s straightforward and predictable, so you always know what you’re paying for.

Work billed by time is charged at an hourly rate based on the experience of the lawyer helping you. Time is tracked in twelve-minute increments, so you’re only billed for the work actually done on your matter. During your consultation, you’ll get an estimate of how much work your matter may require and what that could cost.

No. Not everyone needs full representation from start to finish. Our unbundled, or “limited-scope,” services let you get professional help only where you need it most — legal coaching, strategy advice, or document preparation — without retaining a lawyer for the entire matter. It can lower costs while keeping your decisions informed by sound advice, and you can move to full representation any time your situation calls for it.
